01Challenge
The controller of the lid producer's 2015 side-entry robot was discontinued; while parts were awaited for drive failures the line stood idle an average of 6 hours per week. The spring magazine picked double labels towards the end of the stack.
02Solution
Keeping the frame, a KEBA KeMotion controller with 15" HMI, KeDrive servo drives, an LM-8 magazine and ES-Charge charging were fitted; the safety circuit was renewed and a new CE declaration issued. The work was completed in the workshop in two weeks.
03Result
Weekly downtime fell to 3.9 hours (−35%), double-label scrap dropped to zero and the cycle shortened from 2.9 to 2.5 seconds. The retrofit cost 45% of a new robot.
