Side entry or top entry?
A comparison of the two robot architectures in terms of intervention time, ceiling height, cavity count and cost.

A top-entry robot descends into the mould gap from above; it is mounted on the machine and needs ceiling height. A side-entry robot stands beside the machine and enters the mould with a horizontal axis; with one horizontal move instead of descent and ascent, intervention drops to 0.8–1.0 seconds.
In high-cavity thin-wall applications side entry is the standard: a double-sided plate takes out and places in a single entry. Top entry may be preferred for low-cavity technical parts and layouts with sufficient ceiling height, as it takes no floor space beside the machine.
Decision criteria: target cycle, cavity count, ceiling height, floor space beside the machine and changeover frequency. Bor4's application analysis compares these five criteria in a table.
